Looking out the window, we are travelling across the painter's easel. The brightest star in this constellation is a cataclysmic variable star. This star irregularly increases in brightness by a huge factor then drops back to a quiescent state. Unpredictable and enigmatic.

Looking further afield we can see rare luminous blue variables, massive evolved stars, entirely dramatic and unpredictable in their variations.
